Our Journey and Purpose

ADAPEI de la Sarthe is an organization dedicated to supporting families and individuals affected by intellectual disabilities. For years, we have worked alongside families, caregivers, and professionals to provide comprehensive guidance, resources, and social support, ensuring that every person—child, adolescent, or adult—can live a life of dignity, inclusion, and autonomy. Through collaboration with national networks such as URAPEI and UNAPEI, ADAPEI de la Sarthe strengthens its capacity to advocate, educate, and support communities across the region.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower families caring for individuals with intellectual disabilities while promoting inclusion, well-being, and autonomy for those individuals. ADAPEI de la Sarthe provides a combination of practical support, social guidance, and advocacy to help families navigate complex systems of care and create environments where people with disabilities can thrive.
Our core objectives include:
Supporting Families: We assist families in accessing the resources, care, and services they need, offering guidance, counseling, and emotional support to help them navigate the challenges of caregiving.
Promoting Inclusion: We work to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities have access to educational, professional, and social opportunities, fostering integration into all aspects of community life.
Enhancing Autonomy: Through personalized programs and skill-building initiatives, we empower individuals to develop independence, make informed choices, and participate actively in their own lives.
Advocacy and Awareness: We raise awareness about intellectual disabilities, promote rights and protections, and advocate for policies and practices that support inclusion, accessibility, and equity.
Through these efforts, ADAPEI de la Sarthe ensures that both individuals with disabilities and their families are supported, informed, and empowered.
Our Vision
We envision a society where intellectual disabilities are fully understood, accepted, and accommodated, and where every person has the opportunity to live a fulfilling, independent life. Our vision is a community in which families are supported, individuals are empowered, and inclusion is a reality rather than an aspiration.
Through our work, we strive to:
Strengthen networks of care and support that respond to the needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families.
Promote social, educational, and professional integration to ensure equal opportunities for all.
Foster collaboration among local organizations, policymakers, and community members to create inclusive environments.
Encourage a culture of respect, understanding, and advocacy for the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities.
Our Values
ADAPEI de la Sarthe is guided by a set of core values that define our work and relationships:
Respect: Every individual deserves dignity, recognition, and understanding, regardless of ability or background.
Inclusion: We are committed to creating opportunities for participation, access, and engagement in all areas of community life.
Empowerment: We support individuals and families in developing confidence, skills, and independence.
Solidarity: Caregiving and support are collective responsibilities, and we foster mutual aid and collaboration among families and communities.
Integrity: We operate transparently, ethically, and responsibly, ensuring trust and accountability in all our actions.
Advocacy: We actively promote the rights, needs, and voices of individuals with intellectual disabilities to influence policy and social change.
